This section describes the various longer term projects we are involved in, here I use “we” in its broadest sense, it varies by project, from me alone to several fellow collectors/diorama builders from several countries.
The idea is for you to either pick up useful details for yourself or to contribute from afar.
We have one huge advantage, during my time in England I got to know and became friends with many knowledgeable collectors and great guys, many still active in the British Flat Figure Society, home of English-speaking flats collectors around the world. Through and with them we have access to a mine of information on any major conflict and period from early empire to the new world.
In Bavaria for a couple of years I again met many very friendly collectors with any information you could possibly want from Flats to antique round figures, excellent diorama builders, great conservators of history through the use of figurines and the best companions in numerous beer-gardens.
With all this help and helpers we can’t but be successful.
====== Current Projects ======
1. The war in Spain (the Peninsular war), Napoleonic period, 30 mmOne of the few periods not covered by flats, this period always interested me because of the multitude of dramatic events and the excellent historical documentation available from both side of the conflict.
I started 10 years ago with Dos de Mayos (the Madrid uprising), now after various sets with Guerilleros and the biggest I ever did, “the Convoy”, we moved to Somossierra (a 5 part set), and the ladder attack on Burgos this summer (2007), in the autumn the big Allied General staff (40 plus figures) than during the winter we ove to Sarragossa.
In springtime 2008 we move to the sack of King Josephs baggage.
Any ideas and help with details will be welcome, an appeal to Spanish collectors??
2. The siege and storming of Maastricht by Louis 14th . 20 mm and 30 mm.A planned diorama, measuring 2 meters by 1,5 meters, will depict the breaching of the walls, approx. 500-800 figures.
So far 1 German collector, Ivo Moll, is actively taking part with collecting information on troops, weather, walls etc and will build the walls and buildings.
Another collector, Martin Sauter, specialist diorama builder, will do the groundwork.
Work is planned to start this June 2007and last throughout the summer.
3. The Rise and Demise of Adolph Hitler and the Nazis, 54 mm.Small sets of about 6 figures each depicting scenes from Nazi history such as:
a. Ernst Rohm introduces wounded Brown shirt street fighters to Hitler, Goering and Himmler.
b. Night of the Long Knives; SS liquidate Ernst Roehm and other SA threats to power.
c. Crystal Night; The first large scale anti-Jewish violence, street scene.
Other sets are planned, we could use help with ideas, uniform details etc.
